Day 2This is a featured page

To honor the second day of creation, we pledge to
Act from awareness that everyone shares the same air.

Try this: Since it takes less fuel to start your engine than to idle a vehicle for one minute, avoid drive-through lines and turn the car off at railroad level crossings. Seek ways to get better gas mileage and to drive fewer miles. Around the neighborhood, consider ditching the car and exercising your body to get there instead. When repainting, look for “low VOC” paint. Minimize use of gasoline-powered yard equipment such as leaf blowers. Check Atlanta air quality before going out. More…

Why: The idea of “separating waters above from waters below” seems quaint, but we could not live if the atmosphere did not keep the water on Earth separated from the vacuum of space. Philosopher David Abram points out that in many languages, a single word (e.g. ruach in Hebrew) means breath, wind, and spirit. He suggests we are only able to use the atmosphere as a dumping ground because we have forgotten that the air is the physical connection among all living creatures. If, as a culture, we remember the air, eventually our city air will be safe to exercise in even on summer afternoons, the ozone shield will complete its healing, and the climate crisis will be minimized. More…

Outing: RSVP if you are able to participate in an easy Decatur bike ride, sponsored by Southern Bicycle League, on Saturday afternoon, April 14, at 2:00 PM. More..

to Habit of the Week: Some people have a rule - if it's less than a mile, walk.

to "atmosphere as a dumping ground" - GOOD - I never thought of it that way, but that's exactly what we do
