Outing - Day 6This is a featured page

On May 15, learn about Georgia Interfaith Power and Light's (GIPL's) Home Energy and Environment Upgrade Program, at the home of Steve Kay and Jennifer Weissman, pilot participants in the program. A Southface Energy Institute expert will be on hand to explain the program and answer questions, and at least three pilot participants will also be present.

The benefits, as reported by pilot participants, include:

  • Ending drafts
  • Fixing major inequalities in temperature between rooms
  • Stopping mold, humidity, and other indoor air quality problems
  • Greatly reducing heating and cooling bills

The homeowner 's investment is expected to be paid back in energy savings within a few years. The work, performed by contractors certified by Southface Energy Institute, Atlanta's 25-year old energy efficiency nonprofit, includes diagnosis, sealing duct leakages and sealing cracks to the outdoors.

GIPL is involved in this program through a marketing arrangement with Georgia Power. GIPL's interest is in the greatly reduced impact of congregants' homes on climate change.
